How to choose the appropriate tent fabric
What fabric is used for tents? What are the types of tent fabrics? At present, the commonly used tent fabrics include: canvas, Oxford cloth, nylon, and washcloth.
For general leisure, nylon and washing are the most commonly used and also relatively good. Rigg and Oxford are generally used for professional outdoor sports and are suitable for professional tents in extreme environments such as high mountains, plateaus, and snow capped mountains. Nylon and washcloth are commonly used in casual inflatable tents. Judgment criteria: The higher the density, the better, and the higher the waterproof degree, the better.
1. Water repellent only applies AC or PU coating on the surface. Usually only used for inflatable tents for children or games
2. Waterproof 300mm is generally used for beach tents/sunshades or cotton tents used in drought and low rain conditions
3. Waterproof 800MM-1200mm inflatable tent for regular simple camping
4. Waterproof 1500MM-2000MM is used for mid-range inflatable tents that require multiple days of travel.
5. Waterproof tents above 3000mm are generally professional inflatable tents that have been treated with high temperature/cold resistance technologies.
The rainproof performance of the outer tent fabric is still calculated based on how many millimeters of water column it can withstand per square centimeter. The rainproof index of general professional tents is above 1500mm, which can prevent moderate to heavy rain; The mountain tents of individual specialties can reach 3000-4000mm, which can prevent continuous rainstorm.
Excellent quality rainproof tarpaulin not only has high rainproof indicators, but also has wide and thick adhesive strips at the seams of the tarpaulin to prevent water leakage at the seams.
Although the rainproof index of the outer tent fabric is high, breathability is a problem. Even on a clear night without rain, after sleeping, the outside and inside of the tent will still be covered with water droplets, especially when setting up an inflatable tent on damp ground such as grass. Accumulate too much and it will drip into the internal account. Relatively speaking, the outer tent with low rainproof indicators has less water on the inner surface compared to those with high rainproof indicators.
These are all the water vapor exhaled by residents inside the inflatable tent, and the water droplets accumulated on the inner surface of the tent due to the steam on the ground. Due to the rain proof exterior of the tent, rainwater cannot enter and steam cannot escape from inside. So when you wake up in the morning, avoid shaking the tent too hard and be careful not to let it rain inside. At the same time, it is not suitable for backpackers who are active in low altitude areas to buy professional tents, which not only wastes money but also makes them uncomfortable. They may feel stuffy and hot when sleeping at night.
